Christ-Centered Meditation

Finding Peace In Him
Daily meditation creates deep centeredness and peace. The paradigm: when we offer God who we really are, He transforms our character, and gives us true peace in Christ.

People comment on how meditation helps them achieve inner calm. They are less disturbed by external events. When upsetting things happen, we can ask God for comfort. Over time, meditation's benefits build up.

Ways To Meditate
As a daily practice, slowly repeat an uplifting, character-enhancing Bible passage or Christian prayer. Begin with 5 to 10 minutes, and build up to 30 minutes. We become what we see, hear, and say to ourselves. Let these words and images seep inside you. The benefits of meditation build up, day after day.

Here are examples of Bible passages and prayers for meditation. Some verses are modified, as noted. Try these and also choose others that are meaningful to you.

Christian Spiritual Passages for Meditation
Psalm 139:23-24* Search me, O Father, and know my heart;
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
And lead me in Your way everlasting.
Psalm 23* Jesus, Lord, you are my shepherd, I shall not want.
You make me to lie down in green pastures,
You lead me beside still waters,
You restore my soul.
You lead me in path of righteousness
For Your name's sake.

Yea, though I walk
Through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
They comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of those who oppress me.
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
All the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Proverbs 3:5-6* I trust in You, Heavenly Father with all my heart,
And I lean not on my own understanding.
In all my ways,
I acknowledge You.
And, You will direct my paths.
Psalm 51:10-12* Create a pure heart in me, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Let me always seek Your Divine Presence,
Let me hear and obey Your Holy Spirit.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Prayer of St Francis* Father, make me a daughter (son) of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
Where there is sadness, joy.

Oh, Dearest Heavenly Father,
Please grant that I may seek
To be consoled, and to console,
To be understood, and to understand,
To be loved, and to love.
For it is in giving, we receive,
It is in pardoning, we are pardoned,
It is through coming alive in Christ,
We are born to eternal life.
